Book Signing

Rediscovered Books recently brought in my novel “The Riders Club.” It is currently on display and for sale in their stores. Their review process was simple and easy. I filled in a request form online, dropped off a book copy, and waited. They followed up with me and said, “we’d love to carry your book.”

How about that!

They also asked if I would be interested in a book signing. A great idea. We agreed on having the event in May at Rediscovered Books’ Caldwell Store.

As the event drew near, I wasn’t nervous but was somewhat concerned. I had never done this before. What if I misspelled someone’s name or made a mess of a message or my signature? My hand can get shaky, something I inherited from my dad.

A few days before the event, I drove to Caldwell to check out the store. I was impressed. Rediscovered Books had a great location downtown. A beautiful mural was painted on the store’s exterior. The store was large, well displayed, organized, and comfortable. The building, at one time, was a bank. It still had that feeling with high ceilings and bright lighting. They kept the bank vault and turned it into a special display area for collectible books. Very cool!

I’m not well known. I was a little worried that no one would come. I’ve been in stores where an author, looking lonely, sat at a small table with their books, and people kept their distance. That could be me. What’s worse, what if no one wants to have me sign their book? It could happen, but it didn’t.

Rediscovering Books was busy. Five minutes after I sat down, a nice lady asked me a few questions and then took a book and had me sign it. I wasn’t shut out. The store had good traffic, and the customers were friendly. I talked with people all afternoon, and they purchased and had me sign a lot of books. The staff said it had been a very successful event.

My wife and daughter came with me and checked out a busy Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. There was an outdoor market, along with food trucks and live music. My son and his wife showed up to be supportive. They all hung out at the store for a while.

It was a great day.

My thanks to Rediscovered Books and their excellent staff at their Caldwell Store.
